The Global Child Forum on Southeast Asia, held on 5 May, 2016 in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, will bring together leaders and decision makers from business, governments, academia and civil society to identify opportunities for how responsible business can contribute to the realization of children’s rights in the ASEAN region. CCR CSR will be an expert partner at the event, with a keynote speech on children and business delivered by Executive Director Ines Kaempfer.

There are approximately 62 million left-behind children in China today, with an estimated 2 million children left to fend for themselves without any adult supervision whatsoever. While a spate of tragedies involving left-behind children have made national headlines over the years, no official measures have been introduced to protect this vulnerable group, until now.

CCR CSR is in the process of developing an ‘Immediate Response Tool’ for the earliest stage of child labor case handling and seeks your support in distributing an online survey to your auditors. The results of this survey will make it possible to combine CCR CSR’s best practice experience with updated feedback from the auditor’s practice. It will also help to ensure that the final product is closely related to the existing needs and challenges.

On January 14th and 15th we kicked off the first Virtual Youth Development Working Group meetings of the year. Close to a dozen international brands took part in lively, informative discussions that centered around China’s young workers and foreign migrant workers in Malaysia. An additional three meetings (scheduled over 2 days to accommodate all major time zones) will take place in 2016 (please see the schedule below), with topics ranging from child labor in Myanmar to the Children’s Rights and Business Principles to best practice examples in supporting migrant parent workers in factories.
